Rear Shock absorber bushes

How tight do you do the bushes up

I have fitted new Bilstein shocks and Eibach spring to my tin top gti. How tight do you do the nut that screws onto the top of the rear top bush,  i have done it up as far as it will go but this seems to really compress the top bush.

The torque specs on the Bentley lists the 2 nuts separately.  The inner or nut towards the shock is 20Nm.

The upper nut is 31.5Nm.

Now with that being said, I hope that you took the time to "Mummify" the lower bolt, why you ask?

Because I have fought that blasted bolt for years on my first Golf (which was off the showroom floor) and on each of my Cabriolets…. After Cutting and Torching them off I found the answer in going back was to cover the Bolt Head to Thread with "Teflon Tape" and coating it with never-seize, so in the future I could have a easy go of replacing the bolt.

Frozen bolt in the middle of the mount bushing.

Mummify that bolt.

Same bolt about 5 years later…. all bright and shiney and ready to be re-mummified.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
