Hi, I have tonight replaced a rear wheel cylinder but when I try and set up the adjusting wedge, the wedge just fell all the way through. I understood it would stay up high until the spring pulls it down as the shoes wear. Is it the cylinder that is wrong? The part number of the cylinder is used was LPR4912 which when I googled it came back as right part (I think). I didn't have to undo any of the springs on the shoes so I don't know what is wrong - can anyone help. Car in question is a 1984 Golf GTi Cabby.

You have to adjust yourself mate

The wedge should have a 'dot' stamped on it to stop it pulling all the way thru.
Best idea is to stick drum back on and use a pointy screw driver thru a bolt hole to pull the wedge down.

Thanks for the responses but have sussed it. There are two different wheel cyclinders with different length pistons - I had the wrong ones All fixed now though
