pic request for mk4 golf gear shiftersitted in car

I am fitting mk4 gear change. I need to fit it in the car to avoid my exhaust hitting it and it dragging on floor… can people show me how you have done it? As i just cant get it sitting level and looking semi un bodged….
Also where do you cut the hole in bulkhead? Is there a best place to do it? 
Please help before i get my dremmel out!!!
