Heritage ones are not oem and they specify they suit all models. The GTI sat lower than standard models so how can they be right?
There were around 5 different spring rates back in the day, for scirocco, cabby golf, gti, jetta etc etc all with different rates/ ride heights.
I went through this with mine 5 years ago. Fortunately I was able to get some from VW back then.
The GTI have 3 yellow markings on them if you manage to find some.

This should help you out http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=parts-wanted_2%2Foriginal-gti-suspension#post_1285099

(well to at least understand what you can't get anymore)

I did quite a bit of digging around last year. Ended up getting a Bilstien B12 kit

Thanks, this is exactly the dilemma I had in the winter when I replaced the dampers. I decided to not change the springs, however it still sits low at the back. I guess the B4's are probably the best option.

Did you replace the rubber bushes/mounts on top of the rear suspention when you changed the shock? The bushes do go a little flat after having the cars weight on them for 20 odd years!

I did replace the bushes at the same time. I suspect it's saggy springs.
