All gears, cable and speedo are ok but speedo wont work via cable.

Hi I am a little confused so thought somebody might be able to shed some light on my little problem.I have no speedo reading/mileage change even thought the speedo moves/mileage changes when turned using a square key in the back where the cable should fit. The cable and gear itself are also working as the square key gear inside the cable spins when I drive. What the heck! Cable was very securely connected to the back of the speedo when I test drove it so cnt say its that either.Ideas anyone?mk1 caddy btw

It should work from what you say, the only thing I can think of is the end of the speedo cable (the square bit that spins while driving) sticking far enough into the back of the speedo to move it, the cover might be tight to the speedo but is the lnside?

Yeah thats what I was thinking. It seems like the only logical explanation. Or the cable broke when I fitted it, but that doesnt seem very likely. Cnt check either cos its not running atm. Will have to give the square a good old tug with some pliers to see if it comes out a bit :)
