it`s a cable operated clutch…given away by the fact you need a new cable.. lol.. you may struggle to get the right one new..prob best to put an ad in the `wanted` on here..you`ll get the right one from someone who knows what`s what

Sounds like the Garage/Motor Factors you rang are a little clueless! They should really know the answer to that!

Got my new clutch cable from GSF, worth checking the bulkhead before you fit too to see if it's showing any signs of stress where it passes through before it goes pop!

Even if there is no signs of cracking or spiltting on the bulkhead (if its not been welded or streghtend before) its worth fitting a strenghing plate when changing the cable as it gives extra strengh.
Clean the bulkhead and the plate comes with a sticky back and stick it on 5 minute job and saves a heafty repair bill if the cable pulls through.

GSF used to sell clutch cables but they are no longer listed on the website same with Eurocar parts.
This one is listed for your car but might be worth checking with them.

A hydraulic clutch uses fluid to operate the clutch so there is no cable, it works like your brakes do.

Brought and fitted a new clutch cable last summer for my 1.8 GTI cabriolet. Got mine from GSF for £15. dont forget to buy the plates & rubbers that fit onto the clutch arm as they are only £4 !!
Hope you get it sorted mate :-)

Can't say I've ever needed to replace the rubber and metal plates on the clutch arm while replacing the cable but depends on how yours look.
You already have a strenghing plate so don't need that.
When fitting the new cable its a pain getting the rubber grommit in the hole on the bulk head put a little grease or simular on the rubber grommit and push it in the hole then push the thicker part of the cable into the bush, you will see what I mean when you come to do.

You might need to check the adjustment in a week or 2 as the new cable and rubber grommet bed in.
Glad you managed to find one.
