im running some bbs rs rims from a polo gti I believe.. they sat right back in the arches so I ordered some 25mm spacers from heritage, there the ones that bolt to the drum and then the wheel bolts to the spacer. put them onto the car and for some bizarre reason the rear passenger pokes out further than the driver side now and rubs on acceleration and pot holes... am I going completely insane or am I missing something ???

Have you checked the offsets of the wheels?
I assume they're 15's? They look like bbs rx2 i think

Stupid question no doubt but spacers are both 25mm?

The offset is 45 and I assumed that all 4 wheels should share the same offset :/

I'd double check just to be sure, i know rx2 came on golf cabrio 3.5 but think they were a rare 16" 4 stud option
Is seems like a long way to be out, i've seen as much as 10-15mm shift on my 4 golfs but you can jiggle the body mounts to re centralise on them…

From tje pic there seems to be a whole lot more spacer on the passenger side although it could be the angle of the pic i guess

I had the same issue on mine, lowered it, running bbs rm's 1.5" lip and wanted the lip dead flush with the outer arch, when I bolted them up it was around 8mm different, stuck further in on drivers side ?, the beam is dead central, checked everything else and ended up making a spacer for that side fitted between the stub axle and beam mount, perfect now but still not sure why the difference though ?, it's had a rear quarter fitted before I owned it, maybe it was a bad fit ?

Pretty common for axles not to be perfectly central however yours is more than the usual couple of mm off.
Your wheels are RS772 and the 3.5 cabrio had RS772. Both usually confused with RX2. Both run et45 and should be fine with 25mm rear and 20mm front spacers.
I've got the 16" RS772 on my cabrio and run 37mm spacers with out issue.

Got a mate at an engineering firm who's going to whip 7.5 off the back side of the one spacer for me tomorrow night.
