Hesitation & Noisy Lift Pump.

Post

Hi all,

Question is re a 89 GTI Cabrio, out of the box standard.

I have a slight hesitation on hard RH corners, just a hiccup. I've had the lift pump out, checked for rust with a magnet, there doesn't appear to be any, the tank looks really clean - the gauze on the bottom of the pump is also clear. But struth that lift pump is noisy with the seat out, as much as the main one when it was packing up (which I guess should answer the question). But before I add to the £££'s already spent -  are they normally loud?

(No other typical fuel delivery type problems whatsoever e.g. hot/cold start and so on).

Cheers, Lee.

Just a hunch, but do you get still get hesitation around RH's if you have more than 1/2 tank of fuel?

Yes - forgot to add, its worse on low fuel but doesn't seem to completely go away with 1/2 tank.

Mine used to do the same on less than 1/2 a tank of fuel.
Common problems with hard r/h cornering due to fuel surge.

But a noisy fuel pump is a good indication that a replacement is needed. Which reminds me I need to replace mine..  :$
