help needed from the experts5x100 hubs 310mm disc'a

Post

I have myself some 5x100 hub's fitted on my Mk1,  I understand that  MK1 has a hub with 4x120 can anyone tell me what hubs I have?

Also I have found some 310mm disc breaks, the first problem I have that the  the calipers I have do not fit onto the mounting points, Im guessing I will have to make a bracket to solve this.

Secondly the fixing screw that holds the discs to the hub is not usable as the hub has no threaded hole for this screw, will this be a problem, I am debating having a hold put in and threaded.

If anyone can tell me what disc and calipers i have that would be great.
Also if there are any brackets I can buy to fir my calipers and discs.

Thanks Tom

mk1 are 4x100 as standard, if you check the steering arm on bearing carrier this will tell you if they're mk1 or mk2/3. straight out = mk1, angle down then mk2/3.

the MK2/3 4 stud bearing carrier ball joint pops into a hole into the bottom of a bearing carrier then a bolt goes thru the carrier to hold it. 5 stud bearing carrier ball joint goes in slightly angled and secured with a nut on top of the ball joint

brakes look to be mk3 96 on and mk4 golf 288/312 style

wow that's very informative, thanks very much.
So we are saying that i have myself some mk2 hubs possibly, and mk3 or 4 brakes.

Am I right.

aha, just spotted you can see the driver side bearing carrier in the background! looks like you have mk1 bearing carriers as the arm sits straight out, brake carriers will be mk4 I recon if 312mm, calipers iirc are same for mk3/4 288 and 312 but not 100% on that one.

the hubs must be custom or machined down mk3 5 stud items to fit in mk1 bearings, 5 stud outer cv spline is different to 4 stud so thats the way to tell what hubs they are :)

Wilwood do a good kit for the MK1 in 2 sizes. Not cheap but well recommended.

cheep n cheerful option is vauxhaull, fair few setups out there which bolt on just need shouldered bolts or sleeves in the caliper holes as bolts thicker than mk1. though did you say you had no thread in the bearing carriers? if not you could drill and tap to suit vauxhaull bolts instead.

theres a good guide on the vaux setups somewhere on here
