golf mk1 auto 1.5 gearbox running issue need help

my mk1 auto 1.5cl i brought this car around a month ago

its never seem'd to go past second gear the gearbox will change from first to second then the car will rev and rev to 7000rpm then the rev's drop to just above 0

car seems to drive fine up to 50mph and sits at 3000rpm but then there is nuffing no more gear changing just keeps revs going up


i want to keep the car auto but would these faults mean my gear box is broken i have had new vopor trap new petrol filtter gear oil change plugs leads dizzy and had the timing and carb set.

i reali dont want to spend any more on it and im ment to drive to holiday tomorrow 157miles away will my car make it y its doing this or can any one point me in the right place garage said my gear box is sound but its only running 2 gears
