gearbox change

well the shaft has decided to take out my diff the other day on my caddy sport (1.8 8v kjet) but i do have another gearbox off a golf cabby down on the yard, the code on the caddy sport is 4S11040 and the code off the cabby is ACD04066, would the gearbox be alright to put into the caddy?
would i have to change anything in the process if it does fit?

the gearbox would fit just fine the gear rations would differ though

I have a ACD gearbox fitted to my 1988 GTi cabriolet (DX engine).
So it has 100mm flanges and a 2 pin plug for the reversing lights and runs at about 20 mph per 1000 rpm in 5th, eg 3000 rpm is 60 mph. It may differ if you have different size wheels/tyres as I'm running the standard VW wheels and tyres.

It might be a good idea to put in some new gearbox oil as well as it's often over looked and the price of a couple of litres of oil it's well worth it.
I can't remember the grade of oil needed and I don't have a haynes manual to hand.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that, might aswell while I'm swapping it 

masin thing is the box flanges, bein a caddy sport id assume it has 100mm flanges if so the ACD will swap right over as it has the same.

you can swap shafts or the flanges over if they differ anyway. ACD is a great sporty box with a reasonably long 5th for cruising so a good choice in my book
