Gear Linkage Causing This?

My recently purchased '91 Sportline's gear changes are quite noisy with what I presume is a loose/sloppy gear linkage. All the gears slot home nicely but the shift mechanism can be heard shunting about under the gear lever. Also the travel is quite long. What should I check? Thanks.

Hi Nigel
GTi_Fan
Yes it sounds like the linkage bushes need doing. The kits are very cheap and it's an easy enough job to do.
Mark funk-star can help you with the kits

Cheers Andy…have been on Mark's site so will order a kit. If I wanted to have a shorter throw would the bush kit still be the same one?

Yes the kit would still be the same I think. Give Mark a shout as he may possibly have a short shift kit if you're lucky plus to make sure you order the right bush kit
