Front calliper bleed nipple

Hello, thought I'd bleed the system after rap airing the fire damage - needed a new reservoir. I've put the rear on axle stands, freed up the nipples with a small spanner then moved to the front. The nipple seems to have a screw thread but won't budge, WD40 or heat (not doing that again) no effect. Am I attacking the wrong thing? Are the front ones the same as the rear? Cheers as always.<input class="ocp_keep_ui_controlled" readonly="readonly" size="45" title="" type="text" value="attachment tag (dbl-click to edit/delete)" />

You ain't having a lot of luck with the piccies are you mate?

If you've got the VWII calipers then the bleed nipple is shown on this one on the top right.

It is a different size spanner to the drums on the rear (at least it is on my cabby)

Hope that helps.

Piccies are turning into HTML tags. I've got Mk1 callipers and no nut as part of the nipple. Can see some screw thread though. C:\fakepath\image.jpg

Looks like the nipple to me.

I think the shaft is supposed to be edged to work as the 'nut'

Before you go any further I'd suggest going to buy some new ones. Then use some mole grips or similar to try and get it undone. Otherwise go and see your friendly local garage  ;)

Hi,

As above the nipple should look like this attachment.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK1-GOLF-Bleed-nipple-M10x1-/390753376026?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5afab7571a

Decent pair of mole grips should free it up and then replace.

the ones above are later m10 thread nipples, the earlier ones are m7, look similar but the spanner flats are much less obvious. may be someone before you had a go and rounded them all off!

if so then id just get replacement caliper, you can find em all over if they're VWII mk2 and mk3 use em, as do even newer VAG models but watch out for very late ones may have banjo fittings which wont work with your brake pipes. as i say the nipple may be m7 or m10, the m10 ones are better if you can go for it more meat to get your spanner on

They turned out to be M7's and were removed with heat, straight jawed mole grips and five swears increasing in profanity as I nearly pulled the car of the axle stand. I've renewed the rear drums with new shoes and springs, bled the entire system so no air in the pipes and the braked still feel spongy - I suppose this is fairly normal?

will feel a bit rubbish till everything beds in, trouble is it feels similar to air in the system so its hard to know which it is
