Dam pot holes

Post

Driving along the road and I hit a big pot hole hidden in a puddle, only doing about 25 mph, big bang and this has happened to my wheel, I did not spot it straight away as it was heavy rain at the time and I just had a quick look. I did notice that the steering wheel was vibrating above 50 mph and my tyre was staring to go down after a few days. A week after hitting the pot hole I jacked the car up and found this…

Is this sort of damage repairable and what does it cost?
Any one recommened a company is the Somerset area if repairable?

The outside of the wheel seems OK, picture taken from the opposite side of the damage.

for the short term put that wheel on the back. if its bad enough the steering wheel is shaking though I would just bin it and get another, they are not exactly hard to find or that desirable so pretty cheap :)

Can't help with the wheel repair but you may be able to claim off the local authority or the highways agency depending on where the pot hole is.
A few years ago I worked for my local authority and they were forever paying out for damage to cars caused by pot holes. Get a few decent pictures and use something to show the depth. Put a complaint in writing and if they are anything like ours they will pay out and fix the pothole.

I have to say I don't like the claim culture but it's amazing how things suddenly become a priority once a complaint and payout have been made so at least it's one less pot hole!

Should have said if you can get a letter/note from a reputable repairer or garage it helps. Round by me most garages were happy to put something in writing. The cost of a tyre and one alloy is cheaper than fighting it legally so the local authority always paid out.

They did however send a letter disputing the claim at first. But preserver and they paid out and then fixed the hole.
