Caliper sliding pins

Post

Ive fitted new caliper sliding pins and bolts etc and greased the pins but the pins that slide inside the black rubber boots seem to be really tight even when greased up. Once the boots are fitting in the caliper the pins are a struggle to fit in.
How free to move should they be?

Are the new pins the right dimensions?  A lot of bad parts out there…..I thought they were pretty much unobtainable too.

It's a very long time but I remember when I restored my GTI the early one piece pins were a right PITA to refit and they had addition nylon sleeves that later two piece pins don't have.

I would assume they are. The rubber boots were shot to bits so found some online and ordered them. Thry dont seem like they would be very difficult to get wrong. I threw away the old one but the looked identical except new

do you have access to a vernier , and set of hole gauges?  take measurements,  you'd need at least 0.2mm difference to ensure slides easily.
Lots of cars have different pins,1 bigger than other, see this a lot, and some sliding pins have another internal sleeve.

I re-used the original pins (I think) and just replaced the rubbers and sleeves

Looking back no i should of just kept the pins and cleaned them up but with them being nice and new i didnt realise there could be a problem from them.

I could just get them turned down a fraction at work on a lathe
