Better brakes for the golf

Post

hi all. First of many questions. I'm currently turning the golf from a little 1100 to a 1800. Now the standard brakes are going to be no good.

my question is what brakes will fit the mk1 I know Mk2 ones won't fit straight on.

Please help
thanks

i have standard mk1 calipers with vented discs and pads and a bigger servo and master cylinder from a mk2 16v

Does the mk2 servo and master cylinder fit straight onto the mk1 studs?

What type of calipers do you have fitted already, the ones which take the smaller square brake pads or the bigger brake pads (VWII calipers)
I you are not sure post up a picture.

Picture from the VWII these should work fine.

Yes but the steel pen that goes to your break pedal is to short you have to make it longer to fit the MK1.

Note if you use the 22mm master cylinder you probably loose your brake light switch. than you can take this one from the same 16V and mounted under by your brake pedal.

I hope everything make sense ,am just a Dutchman !!!

thats true for a lhd car but our rhd ones have a cross linkage so they are easier to fit

I will take some pictures of the brakes hopefully tomorrow. What's the difference with the different callipers?

The VWII in the picture has bigger brake pads so they are more efficient than the other callipers with smaller pads, more surface area touching the disc.
The 1.8 and GTi are fitted with the VWII callipers as standard.
Picture of callipers with smaller pads as fitted to my Mk1 Scirocco 1.6.
