What is the number on the torque convertor, it is on the flat attachment leg to the flex plate…. Then the model of the tranny,,,,,

A 1.8 usually takes a "K" torque convertor, however it all depends on the tranny.

Here is where the model of the tranny lives.

Here is the foot where it is stamped.  This is actually a "K"

If you took the torque convertor off the Transmission (or it fell off when removing it without strapping it to the bellhousing.  You can have a clearance issue in the fitment.

The TC has to be set back.  I have had to fight it to get it right. Measuring it.

Strapping it

Just before bolting cut the wire ties.  I have started to wire tie it through the fins to the cut out on the bell housing as it fits better.
There are also shims to the flex plate that you may need to install or remove.

You think it will be a problem?

There are 2 different flexplates.

Spoked,
Solid

Each one uses a different starter, as a solid plate starter will chew up a flex plate starter… Don't ask me how I know.

There is a starter that goes both ways but the only way to tell is a protrusion in the casting (trouble is that you can't see it when the starter is mounted, as it is on the part of the starter base that is bolted to the tranny.)

There is a thread on the vwvortex about it.

If it was me stay with what was on the car.
Make sure that your timing plate isn't in the way of one of the feet on the torque convertor.
