Anyone used Eibach Lowering springs - got some pictures?

Post

Looking at fitting these to the Golf instead of coilovers - but them not being adjustable has my worrying the ride height will be too low once fitted! Has anyone got some before/after photos, or just personal experience to say how low these make the car sit and if it's gonna be problematic for a daily driver or not!

Ah my bad tintop, didn't think it'd matter!

I've got some Eibach 30/40 springs on my mk1 and haven't had any issues, should be fine on a daily driver. Much better ride than coilovers too I've found.

Not got any before photos as I had coilovers on before but this is how it sits with the Eibach 30/40 springs, wheels and tyres sizes are 15x6, 195,45.

Looks beautiful, thanks for the pics! I'm running 13s so may be a bit lower, but it's a good reference

PXL_20220528_125637249.jpg This is how mine currently sits on coilovers I hate - feels super low and I've wound the springs up a ton! Also zero suspension travel. What I'd give for stock springs again!

Thanks! Yours would be pretty close to the same height, my tyres outside diameter should be fairly close to that of the standard 13" ones, assuming you have the standard size which it looks like you do you should be fine with a set of Eibachs

Yeah, I've got 175/70s so they're almost identical in terms of height on the smaller rim. Gonna order a set now, thanks for the response it's been super helpful!

Hey mate, follow up question if you don't mind - did you need to trim your bumpstops after fitting these springs? Mine look to be resting on the bump stops and I've got minimal movement, not sure how I'd have done anything wrong to get it so close to the bump stops!

No, as far as I know mine are the standard size, you should have plenty of space before you hit the bump stop, have you got any photos?

Hard to tell but here is how it looks with the car under its own load. PXL_20220626_183951126.jpg

You can just make out the bump stop as it's touching the top mount and barely an inch from the dust cover on the bottom of the shock.

That looks right to me, the bump stops will self adjust when you start driving it, they do go quite high up into the top mount at the front and the dust covers do go a fair way down too. Can check on mine tomorrow but I'm sure it looks the same

If you could, that'd be great. I was concerned as I get little suspension travel and the car rode a lot higher on the shorter springs which made me think it's riding on the bumpstops.

Just checked mine and it looks the same as yours, but one of my dust covers is missing so I can see the bottom of the bump stop and the top of the shock and its sat on the bump stop. It feels fine to drive and not overly bumpy so have never looked until you mentioned it! I'm not sure how much travel there will be if you cut the bump stop down but I think I may be cutting 40mm off mine and seeing what results I get. I'll let you know how I get on

Here it is with the missing dust cover:

The plastic dust cover has probably destroyed it self as it's a little longer then the top of the strut housing to the bottom of the cup.

These bump stops are shorter and the cover is a collapsing type.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, interesting to see it's been driving fine with them standard, but a cut down would have helped! Keep me posted. I'll update with mine once I get the bits I need to finish the rest suspension!

Thanks for the links, was going to try and find some covers of that type so that saves me looking!

small update, I fitted the shorter ones and while it doesn't ride on them at idle, hitting a pot hole does cause a clonk and the sound of the bump stop bottoming out. Not sure what else I can do now, can't shorten them anymore - just waiting for the top mounts to age and lift up so the strut has more movement room, and trying to avoid potholes in the meantime.

Not had chance to look at mine yet, just wondering how much shorter was the ones you fitted?

About 30mm. Shorter than the standard ones but hard to tell as the factory ones are partially built into the dust cover.
