1.8 GLi convertible wont start

Post

Evening all, this is my first post on your forum, so I hope that you are all well and that someone can shed some light for me.

My 1985 1.8 GLi is parked lopsided on the hill outside my house with a fairly low tank, the starter goes but the motor dosent fire at all, I noticed that the in tank fuel pump was constantly buzzing once the ignition was turned, so decided to top up the fuel, this made no difference! The fact that the pump buzzes all the time maybe means something?

There were no other signs, it just happened out of the blue.

I should add that I am total novice and that I might not even be in the right section!

Thanks for any help

does the main pump under the car make any noise at all? as you say the pumps should only run for a few seconds if at all when you turn the key 1 click

the fuel relay is worth a look, make sure its not damp and socket isnt corroded. slot 2 of the fusebox :)
