Pre pump fuel filter...where to mount???

So I've got hold of a Sytec inline fuel filter but I've been trying to work out whereabouts it should be mounted?
I would of thought the closer to the tank outlet and pump inlet the better but space is very tight around this area, is there a limit as to how far away it can be fitted? Where do other peeps mount theres?
