New Fuel tank sealing

Post

Hi,

Found that I have a leaking fuel tank. Gonna buy a brand new tank and replace it however I was wondering whether its worth sealing the new tank with some of the sealer stuff (like POR15 stuff) to prevent the new tank rotting like the old one.

Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

I would as I don't think most of the new tanks are painted with anything, just clean and degrease the tank before painting the outside.

yah or even if they are painted i would still put another coat on as its usually pretty por. epoxy based paints are well recommended these days :)

Hi,

Thanks for the replies folks. Not sure that I made my first post clear I'm speaking about sealing the inside of the tank with stuff like this:

Obviously I would be sealing and protecting the outside of the tank aswell.

Mk1caddyg60 Is it a 55L cabriolet tank? PM me with details.

Thanks

Ian

ah well no need to bother sealing the inside, thats only required if you have an unobtanium tank which is pinholed somewhere. the better choice is to just buy a new one but for some classic cars that just isnt an option
