Need some infomation regarding fuel lines connecting to the Accumulator on a mk1 golf GTI

Post

I'm new to mechanics and mk1 golfs so maybe people have some advice on the best way to tackle this job

Basically when I brought the car the tube connecting the accumulator to the fuel pump was perished, causing the car to spew petrol onto the floor when it was turned over.

I've tried taking off the offending tube as best I can but I can't work out the best way of getting it off the actual fuel pump. hear are some pictures of what I'm dealing with.

The rubber pipe connected to the fuel pump where i drew the red circle not sure how to get the end off the fuel pump, do you have to drop the hole thing ?

Also where would you source a replacement fuel line for the one that is perished ? Been looking here but not sure which one will fit and I cant afford to purchase the wrong part.

Thanks !

Looking at the condition of that lot I would say the whole lot wants dropping and replacing so wouldn't be too fussed about destroying any of it in the process.

funk-star aka classic-vw.co.uk will have all the parts you need.

The fuel pump is held in a cradle with a combination of small rubber threaded mounts and welded studs to the chassis. They may shear. The wires to the fuel pump are connected with small nuts behind rubber boots.
Its difficult to tell from the pics if it is rust or dirt but looking at what I can see, from my experiences, your going to need a bit of patience to get the bits apart without fatally wounding them!
The fuel pump cradle may well be rotten. You should be able to hold the union on the accumulator with a spanner while turning the nut. Plenty of GT85 or WD40 is what you'll be wanting!

there should be a blind nut on the end of the pump, undo that and the fuel hose will come off. trouble is theres nothing holding the pump still so it can be tricky to undo in situ!  as said id have the lot off for a damn good clean at least, will make it easier to strip the pipe off
