My accumulator has been bypassed (1.6 gti)

Post

Good evening, after seeing a few posts recently it reminded me about my accumulator, I've searched the forum but can't find an explanation, my '83 1.6gti failed mot on a leaking fuel pipe, while I was sorting it I noticed my fuel accumulator had been bypassed by the previous owner. The car runs faily sweet (apart from a slight tap on the engine and a lazy starter solenoid) but everything I have read pretty much says it shouldn't run with out it? Or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for your help

The accumulator holds the fuel pressure when you stop the engine, when the car is hot do you need to touch the accelator pedal to get it to start?
The car will run fine without it but starting can be trouble some as you should not need to touch the accelator to start the fuel injection cars.

As the saying goes "If it ain't broke don't fix it" so I would not worry about it.

its mainly there to smooth out fuel pulses in the system, the fuel pressure is held by the non-return valve in the fuel pump

but as above, if it works then dont worry!
