MK 1 VW GOLF 1.8GTI TINTOP

I have a Mk1 VW Golf 1.8 GTI ( First Registered 31.01.83). We have a non-start problem, which appears to be due to the Injection Metering/Distribution Unit not functioning.
We have sparks & she has fired up using Quick Start into the pots. However, little seems known about these Metering/Distribution Units!
Apparently, fuel is arriving & leaving the fuel pump, but when the distribution pipes are disconnected at the distribution unit, no fuel leaves the unit.

Has the car been left standing for a long time? If so the metering head could be stuck with old fuel.  Have a look at page 3 onwards of my thread on how mine was sorted with help from fellow members.
