Has anyone fitted a 2" jetex system to a 1.3?

Post

Due to not finding a decent place near me that will do a custom 1.75" system for my golf so I am thinking about getting a 2" jetex system off the shelf but dont want it to be really loud and boy racery!

So if anyone has any experience of small engines and large exhausts please tell me what I should expect

Cheers,
Matt

I had a Jetex system on my Golf but it was a GTI. I loved it as it gave a nice burble and didn't make your ears bleed. Jetex always played on the fact that their systems made a nice note, hence the caricature blowing through a system. I do know you get a reducer pipe in the kit to couple up to the small blocks downpipes ;-)

I've got a 2" Jetex system on my 83 tin top but it's running from a 16v kr lump and ashley 4 branch manifold and it's not at all loud that's why I like it, it's the stainless one but not sure if they still supply it in stainless in the 2" version, can't fault it at all, easy to fit and no knocking anywhere

No the dont do a 2" stainless anymore otherwise i would get that for longevity!

Im sold on it now, at least now if i change the engine again for something larger itl still be useful

Thanks guys, got any videos of the sound? Not that it would be the same for my engine but id like to hear how good it sounds

Well i ordered my system thursday morning and it came the next day which was impressive for free ebay shipping! So i got straight onto the removal of my old system trying to keep it all intact to sell/reuse but unfirtunately i had to cut the backbox off because i couldnt jack the car high enough to take it out properly.

Then fitted my 4-2-1 manifold which lined up in the exact same place as my old down pipe but obviously has a larger bore but it looks like having mock fitted new system that it will be too short by a fair distance so I am assuming that they want me to use my old corrugated pipe bit? which has the same bore as my old system so will basically be a restructor   and im not even sure it will slit in very well into the downpipe and mid section! so ill probably have to go to a local exhaust place to get a section made up for it

Just for future reference to anyone thinking about doing this

Was the system listed as being compatible with a small block engine?

Yes I believe it was but even if I have still had my original downpipe and corrugated pipe it wouldn't have fitted but with a bit of chopping and welding I have managed to fit it with only a slight blow which I will sort out tomorrow

It sounds really good, its actually very quiet at normal rpm levels but above 3k its sounds loads better and performance is noticeably better too

Pleased with the sound then , my 4 branch manifold came with a straight pipe to fit to the Jetex but I fitted a braided flex section to allow for movement of the engine, less stress on the manifold then, you can buy them online quite cheap and clamp or weld em in as in pic

yeah i was planning on getting an exhaust shop to sort out the section that i mocked up today because my welding mask has broken and i would also like to get a flexi pipe just like you  :)

Oh and your car has better paint underneath than mine does on top :( it looks incredible!  :o

Yeah the sound is greally nice but the tailpipe looks a bit too big for my liking

Haha that's what I thought about my Jetex tail pipe so I cut it clean off just after the hanger bracket and bought some  2" stainless pipe with a 30degree bend in it and had it tig welded on swept upwards, looks better in my opinion

ooh yeah i fancy having mine pointing up slightly, got any pics of how that tail pipe looks?

Hi mazza411 which manifold did you use and has urs still got pipe for pre heater or have you changed ur inlet manifold too

Post

I fitted a 1.3 polo gt engine which did not have the exhaust pre-heating holes in the head, however i did still use my inlet manifold and carb but i plan to change these for twin 40 weber at a later date.

The manifold i used was an ashley mild steel 4-2-1 tubular manifold which replaced the manifold and downpipe and does not have the pre-heater pipe. The new manifold had the 1.75" exit pipe.

Im not sure on the distance but it was roughly 6 or the ridges in the flexi pipe (thats how many i cut out) but tomorrow i have had my car booked in to get a proper flexi pipe fitted which will be £90  O_o  which is a lot when i could do it myself with the right pieces of pipe!

Ill let you know the length tomorrow when my makeshift pipe has been replaced
