Help needed

Having problems getting my 1.6 gti to start. I have spark, compression but no fuel. I have fuel getting as far as the inlet to the metering head but if I undo the bolts on top of the metering head nothing comes out. Does this suggest that the metering head is maybe blocked and not working?

Gti jetronic issues

There is a guide for the Kjet system on here somewhere will have a look for it but inside there is a plunger which if I remember rightly operates when the plate moves opening up to the fuel to injectors. Check this plunger moves freely

Thanks for all the links guys, I've read them all and digested them. None of the guides though really answer my original question.
If I have fuel getting as far as in metering inlet but none coming out of the banjo bolts on top does it suggest that the metering head is blocked?

IIRC and I don't have any great knowledge on the Early Injection, but I recall that somewhere I read a TSB about a filter screen in the inlet of the unit that can get plugged.  Basically it said to remove it.  I don't know if yours is the same or if you have already removed it.  Some one with more knowledge than I will probable be able to explain it, or if it is applicable…. I do know that it is mentioned frequently on this side of the pond as a possible issue.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks Brian I'll check that out tomorrow. I haven't removed any filter from there, I didn't know there was one in there, I hope it is though  :-)

if you dont get fuel when the flap is lifted, then either your fuel pressure is low, or metering head is blocked.

have you got the main pump relay/socket jumped while you're doing this test? if not look for the fuel relay and bridge the 2 terminals on the socket where pins 30 and 87 go with a loop of wire, if oyu can pop a switch inline with it that's even better as you can then trigger the pump at will.

If it had the later fusebox I would say pop a 17/18/100 relay in the fuel pump socket then it'll come on with ignition on, but this doesn't work on the older ceramic fusebox cars the terminals are too big to fit. a 53 relay might work instead but not got an old fuel relay to hand to check the terminal layout!

this thread is worth a look:

also as briano says they were originally fitted with a filtered banjo bolt on the inlet side of the metering head, apparently at one of the service intervals this was supposed to be removed but it doesnt always happen. If you can find a spare return banjo bolt its the same size and no filter for a quick check.

The pressure regulator seals can fail too, this results in lower pressure I believe so thats worth a check, plus look for any fuel leaks. only way to be sure what the system pressure is though is to fit a set of pressure gauges, not the kind of thing an average DIYer has sat around but they can be bought/made relatively easy
