Fuel pump and accumulator replacement

Post

Won't start now!🙈

I have a 83, 1.8 GTI,  tin top. Standard spec.

I've had it 18 years and all was running ok. Only carried out the work for the sake of reliability, etc.

I've just replaced the following:

Fuel pump (Bosch)
Fuel lines- complete set ( Crazy quiffs)
Fuel accumulator (Bosch)
Fuel filler neck
All rubber fuel hoses

It started first time, when I initially completed the work.

However, it now will not start. Also, the new pump is making a very odd gurgling type sound! 🙈 Best I can do on the description! I've changed 3 pumps on this car during my ownership. None of them sounded like this.

I'm hoping that a few of you have some ideas. I'm ok at replacing parts, like for like. But my tech and diagnosis skills are limited.

Cheers.

Gurgling after stop indicates to me that there is a wonky check valve.  I don't know enough to be knowledgable on the CIS or early Gassers, but I do know that a wonky vacuum gravity valve or Check valve can cause this type of Gurgle.

It may also be attributed to a flaky Gas Cap.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks for the reply. Not sure it applies though. The car will not start. I'm used to a bit of 'gurgle' when I switch off.
This is a 'not starting problem' after the fitting of new parts.

If the new pump is making a very odd gurgling type sound I would possible change it for the old one and see if it's any better?

Just because parts are new does not always mean they work… I've had a few duff new parts before……

Are you getting fuel to the engine?
Are you getting a spark?

Tried old pump today, which was working perfectly prior to me changing the fuel lines, etc. Same issue- strange sound from pump. Plenty of fuel coming through and the tank and in-tank filter are nice and clean.
