1.8l 81Kw DX Engine - Fuek filter(s)

Hi…

I had my mechanic replaced main fuel filter (the one just behind the battery).

He told me there is another fuel filter in the rear bottom of the car, close the fuel pump, but he's unable to find out the spare part part number.

He doesn't want to remove the old one because it seems to be in bad shape and he's scared to break it.

Do you have any useful information for me?

Car is a 1983 Golf GLi 1.8 Cabriolet

Thank You!!

I'm not sure if it's the same for your car but I've only got a fuel filter (by the battery) and a gauze filter inside the fuel tank before the lift pump on my 1988 GTi cabriolet I think your mechanic is looking at the accumulator, it sort of look like a filter but it's job is to hold pressure in the fuel lines when you stop the engine, making starting easier as fuel is already under pressure. If your car is starting OK I would not worry about changing it, they are expensive to buy new if you can find one.
In the link for a 1983 GTi cabriolet I think he means part number 30?

No worries, it's a useful website as you can look up most things and part numbers on there.
