Wipers and Blower Not Working

Post

My windscreen wipers don't operate at all on my 91 Cabby, replaced the stalk but no luck, relay 19 seems to be buggered but is this for intermittent wipers or will it affect the normal operation of them? The plug going into the stalk seems ok but not sure which wires I need to be checking to ensure I have power to the stalk. No relay clicks when I move the stalk. Blower is inop too if this is linked. Any ideas guys?

Many Thanks

If you have power at ya motor it will either be the motor or the linkage seized up so take the motor off pop the arms of the motor and make sure the shafts the wiper arms sit on are all free if so new motor required ,, as for ya heater blower do the same start at ya fuse and work back don't forget to check you have an earth as well lol is fuse is ok the check for power at ya motor if so make sure the motor turns nice and freely I don't know for sure but I would presume there's a heater resistor some where co check for power going in and out of that when you turn ya heaters on theses are always very common for going on a lot of new cars so there's plenty for you to go at and more you can do but there's a good staring point check ya basics and go from there good luck

Is there a constant 12v supply to the wiper motor?

Now then fellas, had a bit of a result with this today, got the multi meter out and there wasn't a 12v supply with the ignition on at the wiper stalk plug (grey/black wire) terminal 53a so I ran a wire directly from the battery to 53a and the wipers and blower worked fine! My next question is, where does the 12v to 53a come from? Direct from the ignition or relay controlled? I'm chuffed I know what the problem is but not so sure how to get round it!

Many Thanks

its the X relay '17 or 18 which powers both the wipers and blowers plus a few other things. make sure it clicks and wiggle it in the socket with the wipers and blowers switched on see if they spring into life.

if not try another relay, the mk4 100 relay for SAI and x-relief pump is pin compatible with the 17/18 relay if you're going scrappy hunting.

if the relay isnt at fault look at the ignition switch, you shoudl see 12v at the black/yellow to pin X, check this and trace the wire for bodgery. this is what triggers the relay
