Wiper Issue: RHD/LHD

New scuttle has the opposite holes for wipers

 Hey fellow MK1ers,

I'm currently in the (long :banghead:) process of restoring my '83 GTI. I have just noticed that the scuttle that i've had welded in as the LHD holes compared to the RHD holes that were originally on the car.

How do I go about solving this?

The obvious option to me is cutting a new hole in the correct place to support RHD.

If I were to keep the existing holes would I need a new wiper mechanism to support the LHD holes?

Thanks in advance!

I did a LHD conversion deliberately to get rid of the nasty 'we'll just drill some holes in the scuttle for the English as they aren't worth the hassle of doing another scuttle for' attempt by VW.

Get over to German ebay and order a wiper assembly. You'll need to make a little bracket to support the motor and drill a hole to mount it.

Not a massively hard job and you'll be a little bit different.

Added bonus is that when the wipers are on the water from the passenger side isn't flung onto the drivers side as it is with RHD wipers.

Unless you're 8ft tall the loss of vision through the top right hand side of the windscreen isn't an issue. It'll be fine for an MOT as well as mk1 polo's only had LHD wipers as they were never converted.
