Thermo switch hot/cold start problem

Hi, I had what I thought was a wiring fault from the therms switch on the block water pipe to the dash gauge, so I ran a wire from sender unit to the dash binnacle connector which seemed to resolve the issue.
However now I seem to have a warm start issue, if I stop the car and start it within 5 mins it's fine, if I wait over 2 hours it's fine but anywhere between 30 mins and 2hrs it will fire once and stall then not start while turning over, I've got to sit WOT and try turning it over 5-6 times to get it to fire up.

Does the original wiring loom go via the little computer to affect the electronic choke at all?

It's an 1800 mk1 gti 1984.

Please confirm my sussposition and offer any clues possible!

the cold start stuff is all separate to the dash, it sounds to me like you have a problem with the residual pressure dropping off too quickly.

this can be caused by a faulty fuel accumulator (undo the little screw from the end, if fuel comes out then its bust) the non-return valve in the fuel pump, a bad seal on the pressure regulator inside the metering head, or you have a leak from one of the fuel lines

go over o all the basic kjet checks from my 16v guide, in particular the 5th injector stuff, air leaks etc:
