Older type fusebox issues

Post

Hi all
Finally got all the wiring done on my 81 tintop and put the fuse box back in the holder and the indicators dont work and have no low beam but I have high beam and hazards and a very noisy buzzing indicator relay. I take the fusebox out and give it a squeeze and bit by bit the faults are fixed, six times I did this so I took out the fusebox and pulled it apart, here is a picture 15737545753428890487929209094401.jpg

Does it look knackered to you guys, I know it's old but is it repairable, trouble is I think the car had a water leak which I have now repaired. It seems dry and I've resoldered most of the joints but I cant do anymore to it the unit seems sealed.

that is not to bad, I have seen worse.
The question is what does the under side look like.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Hi briano
Yeah I thought it looked ok really for nearly 40 years old.
This is my point this seems to be as far as it goes for pulling apart I cant get the circuit board out to see if the inside bits ok. Which is annoying as I work in electronics (audio transformers) and could repair bits at work.
Anyway put the fuse box back in yesterday, just hanging there and still has the same fault, pushed it back into the catch pieces put the screw in and, hey presto it all works, but I will try later today and the faults will return I can bet you. The fault is so intermittent.

I too worked in electronics for over 40 years, and intermittents are the bane and hair puller of issues.

I have seen a bunch, the funniest ones were usually related to things that caused ground faults.

Be sure that your Battery to frame and frame to engine grounds have been replaced as they are the start of most flaky issues…. If Lucas was the "Lord of Darkness" Bosch was his prince.  (grew up on British cars).
