No Sparks!!!!!

Post

Hi all,

I'm in the final stages of completing my mk1 g60 build but am up against a few electrical problems. I am struggling to get a spark at the plugs so am unable to get the engine started. My mate came over today to help me diagnose the problem but still no joy.

The output of coil is sparking correctly with ignition turned on and crank turned by hand, but no spark when cranking with starter motor.

Have checked coil supply (thick black to + coil) whilst cranking - ok
Two other wires on the other side of coil. Red/black & green/white.
The green/white connects to the hall output signal to trigger the spark.

Tested Hall sensor by 'pulsing' centre pin (green/white) to GROUND - strong spark, everything good. BUT the 12v on the other two sensor pins seems to disappear whilst cranking with starter motor?

It seems that the Hall sensor gets it's 12v and ground supply from the ECU, so I moved the main ignition ECU supply to a supply that is live whilst cranking just in case - still no spark, even a permanent live - no spark.

When testing the sensor output by 'pulsing' the fuel pump also pulses. Is that correct?

Engine & gearbox earth strap to the chassis ok. Starter motor obviously gets good ground from this anyway.
Earth wire from G60 ECU ok
All brown ground wires to earth claw near fuseboard seem ok.
I have replaced a blown fuse in position 12 - which is still ok.
I now have a blown fuse in position 8 - but this maybe related to a new Hazard switch problem?

The car was running fine before I stripped it and rebuilt it, with the same wiring, ECU etc. So I assume it's only a misplaced wire somewhere?

Can anybody help or anyone experienced a similar problem?

Thanks in advance Jimi

sounds good except for the comment about the coil green/white connected to the dizzy, is it should run to the ecu?

Did you manage to sort it out?

I'm having the same problem.  Only way I can get the engine to run is by bridging the starter
