No dipped headlights, plus other electrical gremlins, my troubleshoot thread

Thought someone might find this useful.  My cab had these problems when it arrived:

Horn didn't work
Radio didn't work
Headlight washers didn't work
Dipped beam didn't work
Full beam didn't work
Full beam flash didnt work
Indicators and hazards didn't work.

Step 1: check the fuses

I checked and replaced a few fuses, and cleaned everything with contact cleaner. That fixed:

Radio
Hazards
Indicators

And the full beam flash can't back but only with lights on (see later heading)

Horn:

I took the cover off the wheel and the sponge turned to dust.  Noticed the contacts weren't touching, so I bent them a bit and the horn worked, but came on a lot.  So I made a new foam bit. Horn fixed.  But I noticed it didn't work with ignition off.  Hmmmmm.

Lights and washers.

I suspect it's an ignition switch, but take the wheel off and give contacts a good clean.  Washers return but I'm not convinced it's not the switch. Lights still not working.

So I've ordered an ignition switch.  It was a tenner, hopefully that'll fix it.

I *think* I would have fitted that first had I had my time again as I think it's intermittently not working, which is making me falsely think I've fixed things.

Headlight washers only work with the lights on so will be linked to that if they're still not working.

I did not know that ref lights and washers.  Seems odd. But you live and learn.

The main Ground for the Steering Column Switches
is a small Ground wire from the Steering Rack mount over to the steering rack gear box.

It attaches to one of the Bolts/screws on the steering racks gear box's

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I didn't either when I got mine. Being a man I hadn't read the owners handbook properly and set to cleaning everything, making sure the pipes were clear etc.
I only realised one night as I pulled into the garage and thought I'd clean the windscreen for some reason.
A strong spray came over the bonnet!!! 😳🤦‍♂️😆

So.  New ignition switch, I now have headlights dipped and full beam WOO!

But no headlight flashers when lights off - so I think that must be stalk.

The flash stalk pulls a bit on the wiper stalk.  Do I need both or one, if so which one? Might just buy both tbh

Actually had a second look.

At some point it's had an alarm.  I wonder if the wiring to ignition live is a bit rubbish.

Time to find an auto electrician I think.
