mk1 golf brake wiring

Post

Hi all I have a mk1 golf c 1984 and I'm struggling to get the brake lights to work I have no switched live going to the red and yellow wire from the board and in turn no power to the brake light on the red/black.

I checked the fuses they are all fine and number 2 is getting power 12v.

I ran a live to the live to check the wiring and the lights work with direct feed.

What's the best way of sorting this ?
Thanks in advance.

So before the Brake light switch you have no 12V+

Then I would suspect a Fuse,  or a broken wire to the Brake Light Switch.

If the Fuse has 12V both sides then there is a wire break between the back of the Fuse box to the Switch.

You could run a 12V switched line (with a in-line fuse holder) to the brake switch, and just be done with it.

I personally prefer to have my brake lights on a un-switched 12V+ as that way if I am Pushing the car, or whatever I have rear brake lights to let the folks know that I am braking.

Kindof like I prefer to have the horns on a "Unswitched" circuit so I can Honk whenever I feel like it.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Cheers for reply I'll run a new switched live and inline fuse.
