Mk1 fuse box

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows if you can split a mk1 gti fuse box? I think it's the older type with the bullet fuses.  It's a bit rusty on the terminals/spades so I want to try to clean them up a bit, as I don't have a spare. Just want to get the car running/check everything for now.
Also would this be interchangeable with the later spade fuse box, or would it mean splicing cables into the later box?

the later ones can be split, not sure on the early. but when you open them you tend to get scared and try another fusebox instead

if you want the later blade fusebox you'll have to change/splice the wiring looms the plugs on the fusebox are totally different

I'm half way through it now, not sure if I'll get it all separated yet as it's a pita.
  I could have had one from tatton park for a tenner, but didn't have the car at that point.
Have to keep trying to clean it until I can get another, just need this one in reasonable condition for now to try to get the car going/check everything.
