Mileage/trip not working

Hi all,I'm new to this forum. I picked up a Mk1 Clipper today which has been well restored and is in good order. Its a 1989 model with 120,000 on the clock.I decided to press the trip on the dash literally within 2 miles of driving it and then I noticed when I got home that I had only travelled 1 mile. The trip had stopped at 0009 just before the 1 would click up.Anyway, this bugged me as well as concerned me so I took it back out for a 20 mile drive, the same kept occurring. I reset the trip on 7 different occasions and all this did was pop a mile on the main mileage each time but the trip re-locked every single time at 0009.I guess if I remove the dash, clocks etc…this could be fixed but I'm concerned now about the genuine miles on the car, I feel a bit of a t**t not checking this when I inspected the car.The trip prior to me setting it had 200 plus miles on it so it had been working in some fashion.Could anybody offer any advice on this matter.
