Different mfa connections

I've got a 1984 mk1 cabriolet GTI 1800. The wiring harness melted where the dash illumination goes. I've got a new harness but the mfa stalk on the car and old loom has a 2 pin connector and the new one is 4 pin.  I've traced the wires back and it looks like I can wire the 2 original wires (red and white/ brown and white) into the new loom (white / brown and white) the remaining wires on the new loom go to a separate black connector, can anyone shed any light on what this black connector is for?

the clocks in the car have the 1/2 switch in the top corner and not on the stalks. Been looking for answers but to no avail

what it is the extra 2 pin plug you speak of is for the 1/2 switch on the later cabrio mfa stalk, so you can remove that and splice the original 2 pin plug onto the 2 wires that remain :)

the pins should be the same so with care you may be able to pop them out of the new loom and fit into the old 2 pin mfa stalk plug

I looked at the 4 pin plug on the loom and it's a male connector the same as the 2 pin connector on the switch.  I managed to take out the contact at the clocks connector and replace it in the new loom. I then cut the brown and white wire and soldered it to the new loom which kept the original 2 pin connector with just one soldered connection and it's all working fine now.
