Help with wires!

Post

Hi gents,

hoping someone can help!

in the middle of doing a 1.8t 20v and need to tieing in the original wires to make my dash work..!

before I start - can anyone confirm I'm correct please…

thanks in advance!

Thick red / white spade - think this is redundant - no idea where it went originally.

Black wire / white wire to plug? Think this was on the coil? Earth it or Redundant or?

Can I use this red/black wire from old coil positive feed for my ECU ignition (IGN) power feed?

Is the green wire redundant?

Black wire with yellow strip on red spade? Horn?

Purple / black wire spade with white plug? - thermal switch for carb heater, inlet manifold heater, auto choke & bypass cut-off valve (carb models) - assume this is redundant?%5BURL=http://s602.photobucket.com/user/andydlc/media/Snapbucket/6BDF4C44-CF15-4CA8-8317-920070331A16.jpg.html%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt103/andydlc/Snapbucket/6BDF4C44-CF15-4CA8-8317-920070331A16.jpg%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL%5D

Solid Yellow wire - high oil pressure /switch?

Yellow/red wire spade - coolant temp sender?

Red/black wire - low oil pressure switch ?

1. inlet heater -> bin. could re-use it to feed tghe fuel injectors though, spade N is used for later digifant injector power
2. points coil power -> bin
3. red/black rev counter feed from coil to fusebox, tap your tacho adaptor to that. green points trigger -> bin
4. black and/or black/yellow will be ignition live from fusebox, might be handy for later say for ecu relay trigger. purple/black trigger for inlet heater relay on D/13, can tap ecu fuel pump trigger to that if you wanted to use factory fuel pump relay socket on fusebox.  last wire will be power feed to autochoke -> bin
5. yellow 0.3bar oil pressure switch, red/yellow dash temp -> keep
6. black/blue is 0.3 bar switch. had a random red/black spliced on to extend, cut that out and repair nicely ;)

Thanks Rubjonny you legend!   To clarify:

1. inlet heater -> bin. could re-use it to feed tghe fuel injectors though, spade N is used for later digifant injector power

Andy - Where should I take my IGN feed for my Qpeng ECU from then?! 4 as per below I guess.. 😉

2. points coil power -> bin

Andy - ok

3. red/black rev counter feed from coil to fusebox, tap your tacho adaptor to that. green points trigger -> bin

Andy - Cool - will Chk that out rev counter feed out - don't think it's needed.

4. black and/or black/yellow will be ignition live from fusebox, might be handy for later say for ecu relay trigger.
Andy - Great 😁
purple/black trigger for inlet heater relay on D/13, can tap ecu fuel pump trigger to that if you wanted to use factory fuel pump relay socket on fusebox.  last wire will be power feed to autochoke -> bin

Andy - will bin both purple / the other one

5. yellow 0.3bar oil pressure switch, red/yellow dash temp -> keep

Andy - One is high pressure / one low oil pressure isn't it?!

6. black/blue is 0.3 bar switch. had a random red/black spliced on to extend, cut that out and repair nicely ;)

Ha ha - noted - will do.   One is high pressure / one low oil pressure isn't it?!

Thanks again!

What are these plugs wires for Rubjonny ??

ah so its a qpeng then? not that it matters too much really

1. fuel pump relay feed from the large spade N on fusebox, splice it to your injector power or bin. up to you :) early ce1 digifant had the ecu and injector power off the ecu relay, later ce1 digi had ecu on its own relay and injectors from spade N. aftermarket stuff again either will work and you see either ecu relay or fuel relay power used for injectors depending on what diagram you look at, makes no difference to how the car runs either way injectors need 12v 1 side and pulse from the ecu on the other

3. you will probably need an adaptor to convert the qpeng ecu rev counter signal to mk1 compatible, speak to the guys who did your ecu they will know

4. I would pop an relay above the fusebox to power the ecu and coilpacks, using an inline 15a fuse on the live side. ignition to D/2 or D/7, this is where one or both of the ignition wires will come from.
with the black/purple thats to D/13 and used for the fuel relay earth trigger on digifant and 16v models. if you run your qpeng ecu fuel relay trigger here then you can use a 67/80/167 fuel relay in slot 2 then power the fuel pump from E/14 as per factory mk1/2 gti. you need to do this as well if you want spade N to be live as its fed from the relay as well

5/6 yes yellow goes to the 0.3 bar pressure switch and black/blue to the 1.8 bar high pressure. move them both over to the 20v lump, put the 1.8 bar where the old 20v switch was and 0.3 bar in the hole blanked off with an allen head bung, run these wire over and job done

last 2 plugs are carb related, both filed under B for Bin. they will both have ignition live and earths to em, again they could both be used on the trigger feeds to your ecu relay :)
