Have I got the wiring right. Not sure if the two wires with the yellow sleeves go on, the top and bottom threaded bolts. Or maybe they both go on the same threaded bolt? Also I can not see any wiring that goes on the 2 spade connectors. I can not remember if there were some on them before I took the starter motor off. I can not seem to see any in the engine bay either! Should they be some ?Thanks

I have the thick wire from the alternator. It has a thick black sleeve in which there are 2 wires , each of them with   circular copper connectors to go on a threaded bolt. So both of these go on the same top threaded bolt on the starter motor as the lead from the battery? What goes on the bottom threaded bolt on the starter motor? I can not for the life of me find the 2 spade connecting wires that go on the starter motor. Should there be some, and where do they come from if so? My car is a 1984 AReg 1.6cc GL . Thanks for help.

wiring looks ok as it is, the spades you're lookign for are a chunky red/black and sometimes they also have a thinner black, look in the bay further back for a 2 pin plug on mk1s the wiring to the starter plugs into this so if the section from that plug is missing that'll explain why you cant find it

I have sorted the problem ( I hope) thanks to Rubjohnny on here) I had the black wire with red stripe connected to the spade connector on the dizzy. This caused the car to smoke. It needed to go on the starter motor. However the car will not turn over. There are no clicks from the ignition. The lights come on though. I have checked all fuses and one had blown which I replaced. I am thinking maybe the battery is weak, so I have it on charge and will check again.Any thoughts guys?
