Heater fan not working

Hi everybody,

I've finally got back home from work to drive for the first time my '91 cabrio just to discover that the heater fan doesn't work. (Just the fan because hot air come in fine…)
I tried to search for solution, but most of them talk about the fuse and the relays…
The first thing I looked at is the fuse n. 14 that was a 10 Amp, tried with a 15 (not having the 20 required), and after turning on the car I tried to switch on the fan, but moving from position 1 to 2, and from 2 to 3, I hearde something like a "BUP" coming form the switch… just to blow the fuse (i was expecting it…:dry:) will try to replace it with the proper one as soon as i get one :(I would like to know how to test if the motor is working fine, connecting it directly to the battery maybe?? how?
than if the fan i ok, i would like to test the switch, how to do it???

in the fusebox I only have the relays related to the fuel pump, the load reduction, as long as the intermitent wiper with horns and emergency/turn blinker ones. so no A/C relays is in place…


another strange thing is that i have no no. 5 fuse (fuel pump) but the n. 6 is in place, any idea??

trace the wires from switych to the fan, and take the scuttle tray and fan grille off in the engine bay to check the fan and resistor

Hi fatal, did you manage to get your heater blower working? mine wont come on either, which relay is for heater blower?

Interested in this myself. My heater blower doesn't work and when i pulled the relays a while back one was rusty so expecting it to be that.

Dunno. Car is in the garage and it's too cold, wet, windy and dark to consider venturing out there at the moment.

I was looking for a relay for the bro in laws T2 a few weeks ago and thought of borrowing one out of my cabrio but the one I pulled was all corroded. No sign of a leak so much have been a previous leak that caused it.

blower is run off the x-over relay 17/18, which slot its in depends on your fusebox. for the later blade fusebox its slot 8, for the early ceramic fusebox its slot K

if it was me id be in the local scrappy robbing mk3s. get yourself a 99 wiper relay for variable intermittent too ;)
