Rev counter, temp guage, oil ect

I recently bought my first mk1 project with a 1.6td engine in. Basically a bare shell with an engine half bolted in. The original engine was a 1.3 petrol. I have put it all together ect and now in down to fixing little faults if anyone can share some light.

Problem 1:
My oil light is flashing on the dash, I have wired the yellow wire to the white sensor but there isn't a black sensor in the oil housing for the blue wire, what do I connect this to as I'm guessing that's causing the light to flash?

Problem 2:
I have no reading on my temperate guage, the yellow and red wire is plugged into the sensor on the side of the head but nothing given.

Problem 3:
No rev counter, I'm not familiar with how this works on either mk1 or the mk2 Diesel engine so any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

Diesels dont have acrev counter in the mk1 so that wont work

It sounds to me it could be an earth problem

Ok cool, rev counter isn't an issue. I could have the wires in the wrong place, it's the temperature guage I'm most keen to sort

There should be an earth to the rocker cover and one at the bottom of the steering column on the rack

Steering rack is there but not on the rocker. Il pop one on. I have the oil light sorted now I think but still no temp.. Do you know where the temp sensor is on the diesel mk2 engine?

On the front flange and side head flanges.

If it have the mk2 plastic flanges on it I would replace with the mk1 ones

I found the original 1.3 water flange in a box of parts that came with the car. Popped the temp sensor out, ground it n wired it. Pipes it in some boiling water n it read so think il go for the mk1 metal outlet. Or get the mk2 2 pin sensor and ground it.

If you really wanted to, there would be a way to get the rev counter to work. If you took a wire from the alternator "W" terminal and ran it to the dash (I think its the black wire, you might need to add it to the T14 connector) it would work, but would need calibrating. If you take it apart, there is a variable resistor which you can turn and adjust the rev reading.
