Fuse box/fuel relay

Post

Having a bit of nightmare.  My fuel relay was getting mega hot so I changed the fuse box.  But the relay is still getting hot!!  And slightly melting the surroundings like the old fuse box! I went GSF and  bought a new relay but this one doesn't prime the fuel pump!  I took it back and swapped it thinking its faulty.  But still the same no prime.  Does it need to prime and why is the previous one getting so hot?   Any help as to what is causing this please as its doing my head in!

Regards please

not all relays will prime the pump, you dont need this functionality just needs to run while cranking and you're fine :)

Mine's never primed the fuel pump and I've got a VW relay fitted.
Works fine for the 21 years I've had the car.

Cheers you 2 above for putting my mind at rest!

Do you think it was overhearing due to original relay?

Mine got hot once or twice and stopped working once I removed it and cleaned up the connections it's been fine ever since but I just keep a spare in the glove box just in case.
I would keep an eye on it as it may be down to a fault starting with the wiring to the fuel pump or the fuel pump having to work harder if there is a blockage?

have a good look at the fusebox for corrosion and water damage, if there is any look for a replacement!
