Drivers door switch wire route

Hi

I've refitted the wiring loom into my project but want to confirm the route for the black wire that runs from the interior light to the drivers door contact switch.

Does it run up the pillar then needing to be fished through the roof at the front and then to the interior light ?

I thought at least on my 81 Diesel LS, and 89, 90 cabbies the Brown wires ran from the Switches, and that Black or Red wires ran From the power to the lamp.

The door switches on all my Golfs and Cabbie had Brown or brown/white wires attached to them running back to the courtesy light.
