Dipped beam issues

Typically as the wife has decided to sell her 92 sport line cabriolet it has decided to throw a wobbly ! When you switch on dipped beam they come on with sidelights and rear lights, start driving and after about 5 mins the dipped beams flicker and go out ( sidelights and rear stay on and indicators work) pull for main beam and main beam comes on in "flash" mode but won't stay on unless you keep the stalk pulled back which was interesting for 5 miles down the lanes.
is there a separate relay for dipped/ main beam ? Or is it my stalk on the way out ? Any help please

I would look at the switch, the stalk seems ok as the high beam lights will only come on with the headlights on unless you are flashing them which is why yours are working.

Just had a look at the switch and cleaned off the terminals etc, now it really is getting stupid   the wipers will now only work with the stalk pulled back and to cap it all now the fuel pump won't energise….AArgh bloody thing knows its up for sale lol. Has anyone got a wiring diagram for the rear of the fuse box as I had a quick look and there are a couple of stray connections which I don't want to guess where they go ?
Failing that anyone know a decent sparky in the Redhill area

Thank you for the tip,I went through every earth, changed both stalks for NOS,cleaned out every switch and earth on the dash - and hey presto it started, still odd problem with washers and dipped beam until i moved the rheostat for the speedo dimmer with the switch out and saw it glowing !!- changed the switch and all is good again what a pain but how weird that a light switch can induce so many dramas !

Glad its all sorted,  you do hear problems with the headlight switch as the current for the headlight runs through the switch, I think that's why a lot of people relay the headlights so the power comes from the battery to the headlight direct so the switch is under less stress.
