Dipped beam issues

Typically as the wife has decided to sell her 92 sport line cabriolet it has decided to throw a wobbly ! When you switch on dipped beam they come on with sidelights and rear lights, start driving and after about 5 mins the dipped beams flicker and go out ( sidelights and rear stay on and indicators work) pull for main beam and main beam comes on in "flash" mode but won't stay on unless you keep the stalk pulled back which was interesting for 5 miles down the lanes.
is there a separate relay for dipped/ main beam ? Or is it my stalk on the way out ? Any help please

sounds like the headlight switch or the wire from it to the to the flasher stalk, I assume all the other electricals work such as wipers and blower motor? if so the ignition switch is probably ok but it might not be putting out enough voltage.

you should see 12v on the black/yellow wire on the ignition switch and light switch, then on the 2nd click of the light switch you should see 12v on the black/white wire. this one runs straight to the flasher switch so check the black/white wire here too for voltage.

while you're there check over all the ignition, stalk and light switch wiring over for general condition, look for melty wires/sockets, dirty contacts, exposed joints etc.
