Coolant sensor wiring

I'm looking at my expansion bottle, and it doesn't have a sensor fitted at present.
However, there is a lead close by that looks like it could be the one.
The thing is, it's plug is shaped, and looking at the sensors on line, they don't appear to have a socket that shape (see pic).
The colour of the wire is blue/red and brown.
The brake fluid cap has a plug fitted, so it's not that.
Is this one for the expansion tank, or something else?
Thanks.

Year and model would be nice to know.
What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Doh!
MK1 cabriolet GTi. Lhd 1984.
I've looked at the sticky on wiring colours/fuse board, can't see that it lists a blue/red wire on that part of the loom.
Ta.

According to Haynes, blue/red and brown are the cable colours for the coolant level switch. It should terminate in a 2-pin plug with side by side female terminals.

I didn't think the 84 had a coolant level sensor

Thanks for all of your replies.
It is indeed the coolant level sensor. In the end, I ordered a sensor and tried it.
Although the plug is shaped, the sensor fitted to mine wasn't, so it just popped in.
