ARZ engine loom & ecu - can it work on an AGU engine?

Post

Morning all,

I'm planning a 1.8T install into my MK1.

Is there any way I can get an AEZ engine loom to work on an AGU engine code?

I managed to get hold of a complete engine loom, ecu, clocks and keys from a chap who done the conversion to a MK3 8V.
He was kind enough to give me the entire loom from front to back of the car.

When I tried to connect the AEZ loom, I notice the coil packs are 4 pin - mine are 3 pin.

Can I change mine to four pin hitachi O6B 905 115 E on an AGU?

I already have a spare throttle body with the fly by wire. Wasn't sure how easy it would be to be run a FBW pedal inside the car and would this work?

Thanks

Muller

yes just swap all the sensors, coilpacks, etc over for the correct ARZ items and it'll be fine. Only thing is you'll need to fit the DBW unit to your pedal, its an early engine so i think it will use the remote actuator rather than the full pedal. ive seen mk2 guys mount it in the scuttle and hook the throttle cable to it, but not gonna work for you as your throttle cable hole goes into the bay. iirc theres a ton of room around the pedal area on the mk1 though so you shouldnt struggle to make it fit.

main issue for you is getting the mk3 wirign loom to suit a mk1 shell, as the dash/ignition/stalk plugs are all different and the fusebox is supposed to mount on the driver side so you'll need to extend the loom ort make holes in the bulkhead driver side after mounting the fusebox

The differences between AGU and ARZ:
- AGU doesnt have a mapsensor
- ECU for AGU is ME3.8 and for ARZ is ME7.5
- ARZ has two lambda sensors, AGU just one
- AGU has external ignition amplifier on the Airbox cover(3 pin coilpacks), ARZ don't (4 pin coilpacks)
- AGU throttle body is drive by cord, ARZ by wires
