abf conversion - seat cordobs loom wiring to mk1 dash and indicator switch

Post

Hi all,
I am undertaking an engine conversion from a dx to an abf.  As a part of this i have taken the engine gearbox wiring brakes abs etc from the cordoba and instslled it in the golf.  the bulk of the conversion is done and it is up and running albeit a little rough.

I am having 2 problems with the wiring.

1. Can I wire the mk3 loom up to the mk1 dash and will it all work properly? Does anyone have a guide to this?

2. The indicator and hazard light wiring appears different between the 2, does snyone have a guide for changing this over?

I think everything else is wired and working but i havent tested it massively as there is no coolant in it at the moment so cant run it for very long.

I have done a search and looked through the forums but cant find anything on this.

Thanks for any help you can give.

1. as in rev counter? if so i recommend you convert it to use a mk1/2 electronic ignition coil and tci unit, then the rev counter is compatible with mk1 dash plus you can bin the rubbish unreliable mk3 type coil

2. CE2 fusebox has the hazard switch on the column, mk1 has it on the dash. you can either put CE2 stalks on the mk1 or splice the mk1 hazard switch wirign to the CE2 loom, see my sig golf91 and jetta89.pdf for CE1 and CE2 wiring

coil conversion here:
http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.php?249714

same for you except coil + is G1/4 and coil -ve is G1/12 (cut the wire already at G1/12 and run it to coil -ve instead of ecu)

Then its a case of splice the mk1 clock plugs to the CE2 wiring, or you could use 90spec mk2 golf 16v clocks with enough length spliced into the loom so it reaches where you fited the fusebox

Hi john, thanks for the help.

1. Yes the rev counter but also speedo, temperatures, mpg, dash lights etc. I will look into getting the parts I need for the rev counter.

2. Thanks for the diagrams, the ones i had the colours didnt match (they didnt on the cordoba loom either). Hazards and indicators now up and working.

I would like to use the original dash, im trying to make it look completely standard from the outside.

best bet for this is get yourself a 90spec mk2 golf clock loom, as the wire colours will be pretty much the same plus its pretty much the same cluster i.e. mk3 has a separate indicator wire for left and right whereas mk1 and mk2 have just the 1 into the fusebox.

plus the mk3 loom all the dash wires are white which is not helpful when you're trying to splice stuff!

edit: in fact, check my sig, CE1-CE2 Wiring.xlsx, shows how the pins map :)

Thanks again john,

Will look for a mk2 dash to suit.

The wires on the cordoba loom are coloured to the dash. Must be a variation between the seat and vw looms.
