Hi,
I recently bought a used Emerald K6 ecu and harness from a forum member for my 1.8T project. I have a problem because my coil packs are 4 pin and the harness for the emerald ECU are 3 pin plugs. Is there a benefit to running 4 pin coil packs and altering the loom and reconfiguring the ecu or shall i just buy 3 pin coil packs?
Many thanks
Kris

Good question, I would like to know if one is better than the other.

As far as I know the 4-pin coil got an extra earth that the 3-pin coil doesn't have. If you Google the number printed on the coil it should come up with the wiring diagram/pin-out.

the 3 pin coilpacks have no amp built in, this is provided either by a separate spark module in the say for OEM AGU for example, or sometimes its built into the ecu itself. Since there is no spark module on the coilpacks they tend to last a bit longer.
however you may find if its running big power the 3 pin type are not man enough so then people go to the 4 pin coilpacks which each have their own spark amp built in.
If you dont have the separate spark module currently you'll have to get your ecu reconfigured to work with 4 pin coilpacks as the trigger signal is different

Thanks. I spoke to emerald and got some info and wiring diagrams for both types of coil packs. As my ecu and loom is configured for 3 pin types I will buy some 3 pins to get it up and running. In time if I need to then change to 4 pin packs.
